Manage RDS Farm without admin rights

$

Hi all,

I've wrote a powershell script for my devs. With this script, they can logout all users using their application and after execute the patching of the applications.

The problem is that my devs don't have admin rights. They are simple user.

In my script, I use the Get-RDUserSession, Send-RDUserMessage, Invoke-RDUserLogoff, but without admin rights .... it's bullshit.

How can i delegate the right to use this cmdlet to use the script ?

I've found this topic with the same problem but no solution : https://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/office/en-US/ada13337-0917-4423-9373-08f85abddb23/nonadmin-users-are-unable-to-manage-rds-2012-r2-sessions?forum=winserverTS

My farm is in 2012r2, 10 RDSH, 2 HA Broker, all roles are splitted on differents virtual server.

Thank you !

If anyone could assist with this issues I would greatly appreciate it!

The role in the title does not show up under my remote desktop options and therefore I cannot use remoteFX.

User the Remote Desktop Services I only see Broker, Gateway, Licensing, Session Host and Web Access roles

System:

Server 2012r2 Essentials

Thanks!

Which kind of licenses will I need?

I have a question concerning Microsoft licenses for a network that I am planning for the company I work for:
* Windows Server 2012 R2 Datacenter edition
* the workstations for our users will be thin clients running ChromeOS)
Our users will use the thin client to access their virtual machines (VDI) running windows OS.

We already have a license for the server OS, but we're not 100% sure of the licenses necessary for the users machines and connections.
I understand that we will have to buy for each user:
* An RDS CAL to access the VDI machine
* An OS license for the Windows operating system installed on the VDI machine

Not counting applications' licenses, are there other licenses that we have to purchase in order to allow users to connect to their virtual machines?

Thanks a lot,
Massimo

Terminal Server License - Cant able to Connect Remote Desktop

Hi,

This is related to Terminal Server License Issue.

Mine is Windows Server 2012. Initially i was in Grace Period for Terminal Server. So that for 120 Days, 5 Users can use the server in parallel. After that, i have purchased a 5 Users license and installed in Server. Since the grace period was at that time, totally 10 Users started the using the server (Grace Period 5 Users + License 5 Users) 2 Days back i have rebooted the server. From that time on wards i cant able to connect the server.

While connecting, its showing the message as,

"The remote session was disconnected because the Remote Desktop Client Access license stored on this computer has been modified"

Note : If i connect the remote desktop through 'Run As Administrator' its working fine. But i don't want to do like that.

Windows RemoteApps Unusable After Anniversary Update

$

Hi everybody,

after the anniversary update we are faced with a strange problem regarding remoteapps on remote desktop session hosts:

Clients connecting to an application hosted on the session host do not receive the seamless window. Instead, they get a bleached, semi-transparent picture of the app window which is not responding to mouse or keyboard interaction.

This problem occurs only with Windows 10 clients (all editions, different hardware) having installed the anniversary update 1607 with rdp 10.2. Older clients with update 1511 and rdp 10.0 do not face this problem.

Clients connect to the session hosts through rd gateway using rd web access. All Servers running Windows Server 2012 R2. Clients and servers have all latest patchsets installed.

Does anyone have an idea how to work around this issue?

Thank you in advance and best regards,

Sven

P.S.

Meanwhile I did some further investigations. I set up a new domain with 2 remote desktop session hosts (all Windows Server 2012 R2 with latest patchsets installed). Launching a remoteapp from a Windows 10 1607 client works fine. After moving one host to our production domain, creating a collection and launching an app from it, the problem occurs again.

The weired thing is that after moving the host back to the test domain, the problem still exists. Now in my test domain I have two nearly identical host, but one produces the above described error, one not. No logs, no differences in registry settings, no special RemoteFX GPOs, no idea of the cause... With any older clients everything works fine on all hosts. Makes me crazy...

Problem where RDP mouse click and keyboard inputs do not function

$

We have had a RDS session host running 2012 R2 for just over a year with no issues what so ever.  Around the July timeframe we started to see issues where occasionally a session would connect and while the mouse pointer would move the mouse clicks and keyboard input was ignored but only after the session desktop loaded.  The only thing I have found to resolve the issue is to restart the server.  When this occurs it seems to occur for any new sessions.  I do not know if it also affects established sessions as our usage of the session host is very low over the summer.

Now that we are starting up our fall semester were getting reports almost daily of this occurring and we have been restarting the server daily as a result.  I took a quick scan over the last few pages of questions in the forum and didnt see anything that stood out as someone else having this issue so I figured I would start a topic to see if anyone had any ideas what might be going on or if someone had this issue and got it resolved.

RDS (Terminal Services) / Hyper-V / Roaming Profiles Lock and Not Synch Completely

$

Environment:

2 Clusters running Windows Server 2012 R2

Hyper-V - 3 terminal server machines (farm configuration)

Servers are patched

Roaming profiles

Only one log on at a time.  User session will be usurped when they log onto another terminal server

--------------

Ever since we migrated to a virtual environment we have been experiencing intermittent roaming profile issues, i.e., loading/unloading.  When a user logs off, it appears their session logged off completely from the terminal server.  However, when viewing the open files (Server Manager > Tools > Computer Management > Shared Folders > Open Files) where the roaming profiles are saved, the files are locking up.  I will see approximately 300 opened files listed for a specific user.  Sometimes it takes 15 minutes for the files to close.  However, sometimes they won't close, and will remain locked.  When the user logs on the next day, they get a partially synchronized profile because the files are "already being accessed".   At times, the users will lose items they saved on their Desktops, Outlook email signatures, etc.  In order to work-around this issue, we have to have the user log off, then we close all open files for that user, then have them log back on.  Sometimes this works and sometimes it doesn't.  Also, when the files are locked, and the user logs off, they will see a waiting for profile services" message on the screen.  This will not go away until we close out of the open files.  I am not sure where to look next.  Any assistance is much appreciated.

RD components required

Hi,

I am required to set up a Microsoft VDI solution that only runs pooled desktop collections

1. Do i need to run the licensing server as it seems only to be relevant if i run the session hosts?

2. Do i need to run web access servers since i will be connecting using thin client? Does thin client connects directly to connection broker or web access servers are still required?

3. Is there any RBAC kind of privilege that i can assign? Reason being my customer will like to have a different set of administrator just to update the desktop VM templates.

Thanks!

regular users with session initiated on a domain controller (RDP)

i´m investigating a weird issue: someone send me a screen capture of an AD DC showing two regular users with "session initiated" status in the welcome screen of a AD DC.

The screen captures shows a "square" simbol, in the upper line the DOMAIN\LOGIN_NAME and  below the "Session Initiated" message.

Makes no sense, because i´ve checked and double-checked, this regular users does not have rights or privileges to logon (nor locally nor RDP) in AD DCs. The AD DC is a VM, no local logon could occur without access to the Hyper-V (Workgroup machine), so maybe it could be a RDP remote logon. There are events 4624 with logon type = 3 (network login) and as far as i know, the RDP logon it will shown a logon type = 10

I know this screen, look exactly like someone doing a RDP local or remote login via RDP, disconnect the session and the session looks like initiaed by someone else. The person who gave me this screen capture couldn´t login and see the users tab on task manager to make sure that there was a disconnected session

what chain of events could cause a user to appear to be logged on a DC, generating a "session initiaed" message on welcome screen? As far as i know, event sessions to mapped drive letters, printing and other network activities couldn´t cause the "session initiated" to appear in welcome screen of the AD DC

Connection Broker HA - Error Connecting to Connection Broker

$

I am trying to setup HA for my three connection brokers.

SQL Server

  • I have added the instance with the login with the three connection brokers in the group on the domain and have enabled the dbcreator and public for that user login. All named pipes and TCP/IP settings are enabled on the instance with the right IP address and port numbers.

Connection Brokers

  • I have installed the native client that matches the SQL installation

I am not able to get this going, I continue to get this error.

FYI, my SQL server is on another server but is working good for my other SQL instances for my other databases

Help me :)

Problems with Icons not Showing On Remote Desktop without refresh

$

We have a network user account that was accidently deleted, and since readded.

Since the deletion, any time the user connects to our Remote Desktop environment they see no icons on the desktop or on the Taskbar.

If you log on as the user to the Remote Desktop and click F5 to refresh the desktop then the icons appear for that one session, but the icons can't be moved.   You can't add any applications to the Task Bar to have anything display.

We are using User Profile Disks for the two server cluster of Remote Desktop servers, and have tried deleting and recreating the User Profile but the issue persists.

Any help would be appreciated.

2) VM doesn't have DC role.

3) I don't see any entry related to this in Event Viewer.

We are clueless whats happening here. Any help??

problem: when you search, it will return Apps from the windows market.

From group policies we tried:

- do not allow web search.

- don't search the web or display web results in search

- remove searcg link from start menu (we just tried it, but it does nothing)

- disabled windows market (only disabled market, but you can still search it, so it's not enough)

It's a windows 2012 R2 RDS server.

how can we make sure windows ONLY SEARCHES FILES

see screenshot: this is what we DON'T want:

As a side note: the search function is terrible anyways, we have Word installed but it doesnt find it... Really terrible.

Server seems to constantly hang when logging in remotely. Sometimes it takes an incredibly long period of time, other times it does not connect at all. I have to close the connection, then try again.

RDP Closes Abruptly

I can access my remote PC via RDP outside the network once and everything works seamlessly. However, when I disconnect and try to reenter, RDP closes without connecting to the remote PC. When I restart the remote PC, I can log in once more then the issue repeats.

- I've tried connecting from multiple devices and get the same issue.

- I am prompted to enter the remote PCs credentials. But after I put them in, RDP loads for a few seconds and then closes.

I hope someone can help me, its becoming nearly impossible to log in remotely and I use that other machine to maintain a second business remotely.

rds connecting to server 2012 r2 timing out after 10-15 minutes

I have several windows 7 computers connecting to a server using remote desktop connection timing out after 10-15 minutes and dropping back into the sign in screen (getting kicked off the server ) after being idle for 10 minutes or so. I want to extend this so people do not have to sign on every time their computer is idle. I have set all the appropriate setting on the server in user configuration, I have set the idle timeout on the windows 7 systems. through local security policy. I also have the NIC set so it can't be turned off by the server. and I also set the server security policy etc.. as well to 2 days for auto idle logoff. The server is NOT set up with a session host, and I know there is an additional setting available if I had that set up. is there something else I am missing ?or do I have to set up sessions on the server?
