Terminal Servers in Domain, License Server in Workgroup (per user)

I have 10 2008 Sp2 Terminal Servers in an Active Directory Domain.  My Terminal Server License server is a 2008 R2 Server in a workgroup (not in domain).  My Terminal Servers are configured to use a specific license server via the gui in Terminal Services Configuration.

The Licensing Diagnosis (when loged in as domain admin) shows the license server, but indicates that it is not available.  However, if I provide credentials, it comes up with no errors and 140 licenses available.

When domain users log in via rdp to the terminal server, the profile starts to load but then errors saying Local session manager service failed the logon the requested session access is denied.

The event viewer shows the error

"The terminal server licensing grace period is about to expire on 11/30/2010 and the service has not registered with a license server with installed licenses.  A terminal server license server is required for continuous operation.  A terminal server can operate without a license server for 120 days after initial start up."

My questions are as follows...

Can a domain 2008 TS use a 2008 R2 License server in workgroup mode for per user licenses?

How can I tell if the 120 day grace period has expired outside of the eventvwr?

How can I tell if a user is getting a valid license?
